Is She Strong? #MSS179 #MFRWAuthor #NewRelease

March 4, 2017 by Adriana Kraft

Welcome to My Sexy Saturday Week 179, where authors tease you with seven sentences or paragraphs from their sexy stories! This week’s theme is Sexy and Strong.

Strong? We’re not sure Brenda Tower thinks she’s strong, but we’ll let you be the judge. Here’s a little more about her.

Was she strong as an elementary and middle school girl who tagged after her older next door neighbor and joined him in countless hijinks? Was she strong when she charged through her sexually active adolescence at ninety miles an hour, deeply hurt that he was suddenly ignoring her? How about at nineteen, when birth control failed and she made the choice to become a single mom and raise her son? Or what about building a successful business as an interior house painter? Or perhaps she’s strong for protecting the secret she carries—the name of her child’s father.

Secrets. Trust. Courage. Who will knuckle under first—the war hero? The spirited single mom? Or the former high school bully who still hates them both?

“Maybe we could start over.” Michel set down his beer stein. “You were going to tell me why you selected me as Tommy’s father. There must’ve been plenty of others to choose from.”

“That hurts.” Brenda shook her head. “Don’t apologize. I deserved that. We both know I was quite active sexually before Tommy was born.” She shrugged. “You made the most sense. You weren’t around to protest, and folks in town thought we’d been together off and on since I reached puberty, anyway.”

“So much for folks in town.”

“Right. Anyway. I wasn’t going to leave that line on the birth certificate blank. You were convenient. You were out of the country. I imagine I thought you might never find out.” She fought back tears, remembering filling out the necessary forms two days after Tommy was born. “And you were my friend.”

“I won’t deny that. For all the misery you caused me, there were plenty of times you stood by me when the chips were down. So I was convenient.” Michael raked his fingers through his hair. “You can tell me it’s none of my business, but I have to ask. Do you know who is Tommy’s actual father?”

Brenda gulped for air, nodded, and ignored the tears suddenly brimming in her eyes. “Yes,” she squeaked. “But I won’t tell you.”

“I wasn’t asking you to, but at least I know you’re not just protecting Tommy―you’re also protecting his father.”

BLURB

When war hero Michael Jarvis returns to his hometown on the shores of Lake Superior, he doesn’t plan to stay—he’s undercover, investigating a possible sex trafficking ring operating on the Great Lakes. But he does want to sample the pesky girl next door he always turned down—and it wouldn’t hurt if she’d clear up a few mysteries of her own along the way.

Successfully established as an interior house painter, Brenda Tower finally has her act together as a single mom—but it hangs by a thread, a secret she’ll guard with her life. The return of her youthful crush Michael Jarvis threatens to unravel everything.

Jealousy has inflamed Brett Hill’s hatred of Michael and Brenda for as long as he can remember. Revenge will be so sweet—and it will fit in perfectly with his high stakes game.

When the secrets break open, can Michael and Brenda find the courage to trust each other, or will revenge and betrayal triumph?

EXCERPT

Ignoring the catch in her voice, Brenda asked, “Did you really tell Tommy you’d help him with his pitching?”

Michael’s eyes lit up. “Ah, he remembered. I wasn’t sure he would. I did tell him once that if I moved back here, I might give him some tips.”

“Why?”

“Why?”

“Why did you even suggest such a thing? You obviously know the rumors. So does Tommy.” She gulped and curled her fingers into fists. “He thinks you’re his father. He wants you to be his father.”

Sitting back in the booth as if she’d slapped him, he eyed her cautiously. “And that’s my fault? I’ve only seen him a few times. When we did have that conversation, he was having a bad day. He’d been ragged on by his peers for throwing like a girl. He’d been crying, for God’s sake. I just stumbled into him near the park as he was coming home from school. He knew who I was. I knew who he was. So we talked. I didn’t think that was a crime.”

The pain on Michael’s face made Brenda wince. “I didn’t mean it that way. I doubt you’d do anything to hurt a little boy, but…but Tommy thinks you’re a hero. He’s eager to have you as a friend.”

Michael shrugged. “Sounds like the boy is more eager than his mother.”

“Damn. Do you have to twist everything I’m trying to say?” She clenched her fingers around the stein she’d hardly touched since sitting down.

“Sorry,” he said softly. “Maybe we could start over. You were going to tell me why you selected me as Tommy’s father. There must’ve been plenty of others to choose from.”

“That hurts.” She shook her head. “Don’t apologize. I deserved that. We both know I was quite active sexually before Tommy was born.” She shrugged. “You made the most sense. You weren’t around to protest, and folks in town thought we’d been together off and on since I reached puberty, anyway.”

March 1, 2017 by Adriana Kraft

Welcome to Midweek Tease, where we spice things up to help you get through the middle of the week!

Our forthcoming romantic suspense, The Painter is a Lady, releases at Extasy Books March 17, so for the next few weeks our Midweek Tease will be drawn from its pages.

NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER!

Secrets. Trust. Courage.

Who will knuckle under first—

the war hero?

The spirited single mom?

Or the former high school bully who still hates them both?

EXCERPT SET-UP: Michael’s doing finish carpentry work on the same job site where Brenda works as a house painter. Michael knows they’ve got to talk…

EXCERPT

“So you’ll join me for a beer after work?” Michal asked.

“Why can’t we just talk here?”

“Because I may want to claim squatter’s rights.”

“What?” Brenda’s mouth fell open and she blinked. “What?”

He pursed his lips. “You’ve had this whole town believing you and I got it on years ago. That I’m Tommy’s natural father. Maybe I’m ready to prove you right.”

Michael retreated quickly as she pointed the sprayer at him.

“Don’t you get any such ideas, Michael Jarvis,” she huffed. “You don’t have any rights. You rejected me―” she choked out― “you hurt me so many times there’s no way I’m going to go to bed with you now. I’ve got my life together. I sure as hell don’t need you.”

He gave her his most confident grin. “You may not need me, but the question remains―do you still want me?” He held up his palm to stop her response. “I’ll pick you up at seven. I trust you’ll be ready.”

“Oh, I’ll damn well be ready,” she snapped. “We’ve got lots to talk about. Like how we can work together without you letting your libido get in the way. But don’t come by my house. I’ll meet you at McPhail’s.” She took a quick gulp of air and hurried on before he could interrupt. “I’m not a teenager anymore, Michael. I’m not about to fall down on my knees and worship your existence.”

“I don’t want that.” Michael chuckled. “And when you’re on your knees, I’m counting on you having something else on your mind than worship.”

He ducked through the doorway, narrowly escaping a paint brush thrown his way. Whistling softly, he tried not to pay close attention to the string of cuss words coming from the living room. This was probably not the moment to tell Brenda that a woman talking dirty to him was a definite turn on.

Coaxing the Shy Sexy One… #MSS178 #MFRWAuthor

February 25, 2017 by Adriana Kraft

Welcome to My Sexy Saturday Week 177, where authors tease you with seven sentences or paragraphs from their sexy stories!

This week’s theme is Shy Yet Sexy.

My first reaction to that theme was I don’t think we’ve ever written a shy lead character! So I scanned our book covers and smiled to myself when she popped out at me: Janet Baxter, from our F/F erotic romance, The Lady Wants More. BTW, we think our cover artist, Alessia Brio, did a great job capturing the contrast between this pair of sexy ladies.

We were invited to write this novella in 2011 for Torquere as part of Sapphic Signs, a twelve-month Zodiac series for lesbian fiction, and when our two year contract was up, we indie-pubbed it. Our choice of Zodiac signs? We selected our own birth signs, and Janet is me, Cancer to the core. We didn’t have far to reach for their relationship dynamics…

BLURB

Mix Cancer with Aquarius? Like oil and water – but when levelheaded Janet Baxter re-connects with free spirited Brenda Cassidy, the lady knows she wants more!

Janet Baxter keeps her post-divorce life neatly compartmentalized: Secure job, spacious Westchester County home, successful adult children, dependable community volunteer activities. Why is she drawn – for the first time ever – to attend her twenty-year college reunion in New York City?

Always a free spirit, Brenda Cassidy is comfortably bisexual and has no plans to ever settle down. But a fling? The reappearance of svelte, reserved Janet Baxter in Brenda’s life is nothing less than a gift, worthy of every enticement Brenda can conjure up. Can Brenda seduce Janet into an endless night of the lovemaking they enjoyed too briefly as college roommates? What if the lady wants more?

EXCERPT

SET UP At the reunion, Janet runs into Brenda, who’s just moved back from California to New York. They ditch the formal reunion proceedings and head to the campus bar where they used to hang out…

“Let’s dance,” Brenda said. “For old times’ sake. You used to be a good dancer.”

“I don’t know,” Janet said, half rising from her seat. Her protest caught in her throat. “I haven’t danced in years. Tom never wanted to.”

“Don’t you date? Get out of the house?”

Standing, Janet knew it was too late to avoid dancing. She closed her eyes. She loved dancing. She’d loved it ever since she was a little girl, when she’d started ballet lessons.

And she wasn’t a bad dancer. But as she grew taller and taller, fewer boys wanted to dance with her.

Her height had never posed a problem for Brenda. They’d often attracted stares and some catcalls, particularly when they slow-danced, but she’d never cared in those days. She just loved to dance, and people could have their own opinions. Of course that changed once Tom entered her life. He had never liked Brenda, and the feeling was mutual. Janet wanted Brenda to be her maid of honor. Tom insisted on his sister for that role, and she’d had to plead and plead to invite Brenda at all. Then Brenda wasn’t able to attend anyway.

Janet sighed and caved in to Brenda. With more than a little trepidation, she held Brenda’s hand and tried not to think about what the other Eagle patrons might be assuming as she and Brenda made their way across the dimly lit room.

Janet’s gaze dropped to the rise and fall of Brenda’s hips, which were covered in a chic skirt that stopped well short of the knee. Her former roomie still had a butt Janet would die for. How had Brenda maintained her figure all these years? Janet grinned. Maybe all the time Brenda spent dancing had something to do with that. Maybe she had a rigorous exercise routine. Janet shook her head. It was hard to imagine Brenda having any rigorous routine.

Sex. Maybe it was sex that helped Brenda stay in shape. Janet nearly giggled aloud. She’d had more than enough to drink. She glanced down again at Brenda’s ass, trying not to recall how she’d so thoroughly enjoyed cradling it in her arms. Her throat went dry. How could something so unacceptable feel so splendid? They hadn’t been together that many times, but she could remember every detail of their lovemaking—the seductive gestures, the words of endearment, the scents, the subtle noises, the feel of skin on skin.

Review: Five Stars: I loved these ladies! Building up the sexual tension between these two is the heart of this book. When they finally give in, I was right there with them. They are HOT!!!! Sheila G, Amazon

“Too Hot to Handle” and other titles…#MFRWAuthor

February 24, 2017 by Adriana Kraft

Welcome to Week 8 of the MFRW 52-Week Blog Challenge! This week’s topic is How I Choose a Blog Title.

Sometimes we think book titles choose us. Did you ever try to pick something up off a hot stove and go Wow—that’s too hot to handle? Yeah. That’s the level of heat we hope you think of when you see our upcoming title this July. When Extasy Books proposed their Summer Shorts series, we knew we wanted to write about the swinging mid-life couple who star in our Swinging Games Series. The incident at the stove happened the evening after I saw the announcement – well, and maybe I said some other words, too, but they don’t belong in our title. We’ve had a lot of fun writing Too Hot to Handle. Summers can be brutally hot and humid where our star couple live in Southern Indiana, so we sent them to the Wisconsin north woods to cool off at a nudist resort. Wonder if they’ll meet another couple too hot to handle…

Any little thing in our life can inspire a title or a story. We were driving through Ashland, Wisconsin, headed back home to Minnesota late one spring when we had to stop for a construction van that was double parked unloading supplies. When we took a closer look at the figure in coveralls carrying the materials, we discovered it was a woman. Our son is a general contractor, and at the time he had a female interior painter he relied on for detail work, so our title was easy, and the plot soon followed. The book will be released at Extasy Books March 17.

“Riders Up!” is the call for jockeys to mount and move from the paddock out to the racetrack for the post parade ahead of each horse race. We thought that would work perfectly for our four-book romantic suspense series set in the horse racing industry. The title for Book One was obvious as soon as we had names for our heroine and her horse: “Cassie,” and “Cassie’s Hope.” Once that was in place, we wanted all four books to have a two-word title. We love how our cover artist, Rebecca Poole, created symmetry across the series with the title words.

For this last book, the title definitely created the story. Young virgin seeks out her trusted childhood buddy for some sex tutoring so she can please her fiancé on that special night. Cherry Tune-Up says it all, don’t you think? Wonder who she’ll choose for the next tune-up…

When you’re browsing for books, what grabs you first and makes you look again? It can be a close race between the cover and the title – but for me, the title wins out. Titles are almost certain to have come from the authors, while covers are more likely to have a host of other contributors and decision makers behind them.

#Boomers and Hobbies #MFRWAuthor #Health

February 10, 2017 by Adriana Kraft

Welcome to Week Six of the MFRW 52-Week Blog Challenge! This week’s topic is My hobbies (when I’m not writing).

By now if you follow us at all, you know we’re baby boomers, so it should come as no surprise that staying healthy tops the list of anything we get involved in. (Photo – biking in Palo Duro Canyon, Texas).

With any luck, I might need this body another three decades, and I’d like to be able to enjoy it! Our health, our hobbies, and our writing form the proverbial three-legged stool upon which everything else depends.

That may sound way too serious, but don’t worry, our first criterion for selecting a hobby is pleasure! If we don’t enjoy it, we’re not likely to keep at it, no matter how much it might be good for us  🙂 . Beyond being pleasurable, we hope it contributes to our health in some fashion, but even if it doesn’t, a major criterion is that it not be harmful.

Most of our hobbies involve physical activity: hiking, bicycle riding, dancing (ballroom and country/western), walking, mini golf, and golf (Mr. Kraft is a regular, I’ve just started lessons). We thrive on being outdoors, traveling, taking in new events and new scenes, any time the opportunity arises. (on the right, Hecata Lighthouse, Oregon coast; on the left, hiking in Sedona, Arizona).

We both have a few sedentary hobbies – as long as our bodies stay healthy, we’d like to have a brain to go with them, and there’s Alzheimer’s in my family tree, so I’m probably overly sensitive on this issue.

In addition to reading (goes without saying – we’re writers!), both of us enjoy several word games – scrabble, crossword puzzles, the WordStreak App and the WordBrain App among them. I might be addicted to Sudoku. I take on the challenging ones and have to limit myself to one a day or I’ll get nothing else done!

And where does writing fit in? We started writing erotic romance together as a hobby to keep our own juices flowing and follow the use it or lose it dictum. I’ll spare you the details about how our writing feeds our personal life (TMI and all that…) – let’s just say we hope it does the same for our readers!

We blog about health issues from time to time and are always looking for authors and readers to interview about their health stories – leave us a comment if you’d like to be on our guest list!

Curious about what other authors do when they’re not writing? Check out the posts below!
