“Too Hot to Handle” and other titles…#MFRWAuthor

February 24, 2017 by Adriana Kraft

Welcome to Week 8 of the MFRW 52-Week Blog Challenge! This week’s topic is How I Choose a Blog Title.

Sometimes we think book titles choose us. Did you ever try to pick something up off a hot stove and go Wow—that’s too hot to handle? Yeah. That’s the level of heat we hope you think of when you see our upcoming title this July. When Extasy Books proposed their Summer Shorts series, we knew we wanted to write about the swinging mid-life couple who star in our Swinging Games Series. The incident at the stove happened the evening after I saw the announcement – well, and maybe I said some other words, too, but they don’t belong in our title. We’ve had a lot of fun writing Too Hot to Handle. Summers can be brutally hot and humid where our star couple live in Southern Indiana, so we sent them to the Wisconsin north woods to cool off at a nudist resort. Wonder if they’ll meet another couple too hot to handle…

Any little thing in our life can inspire a title or a story. We were driving through Ashland, Wisconsin, headed back home to Minnesota late one spring when we had to stop for a construction van that was double parked unloading supplies. When we took a closer look at the figure in coveralls carrying the materials, we discovered it was a woman. Our son is a general contractor, and at the time he had a female interior painter he relied on for detail work, so our title was easy, and the plot soon followed. The book will be released at Extasy Books March 17.

“Riders Up!” is the call for jockeys to mount and move from the paddock out to the racetrack for the post parade ahead of each horse race. We thought that would work perfectly for our four-book romantic suspense series set in the horse racing industry. The title for Book One was obvious as soon as we had names for our heroine and her horse: “Cassie,” and “Cassie’s Hope.” Once that was in place, we wanted all four books to have a two-word title. We love how our cover artist, Rebecca Poole, created symmetry across the series with the title words.

For this last book, the title definitely created the story. Young virgin seeks out her trusted childhood buddy for some sex tutoring so she can please her fiancé on that special night. Cherry Tune-Up says it all, don’t you think? Wonder who she’ll choose for the next tune-up…

When you’re browsing for books, what grabs you first and makes you look again? It can be a close race between the cover and the title – but for me, the title wins out. Titles are almost certain to have come from the authors, while covers are more likely to have a host of other contributors and decision makers behind them.

Midweek Tease ~ Download if you Dare #MWTease #MFRWAuthor

January 18, 2017 by Adriana Kraft

Welcome to Midweek Tease, hosted by Angelica Dawson, where authors tease you with a little something to help you stay warm till the weekend…

Five Stars? One Star? Smoking hot? Sleazy?

All of the above? Kitty Paige and Jared Jacobs would embrace the entire spectrum of reader reviews and laugh all the way to their next hot scene, and they’d hold nothing back when they got there.

The Best ManPersonally, we love Kitty’s bold approach to life and sexuality. But don’t download this book unless you’re ready for some edgy characters who enjoy things like man-sandwiches, ménage, sex buddies, scarf play, spanking, and polyamory, to mention a few.

Romance with two people who only ever have sex with each other? We like that too, and we’ve got some coming out later this year, but this isn’t one of them. Here’s a taste of Kitty and Jared’s repartee—they’re at Arlington Park Race Track. How far will they go in public?

EXCERPT

“What have you two been up to,” Jared asked, “besides food gathering?”

“Conspiring.”

“Conspiring how to make me rock hard?” he whispered in her ear as she slid in front of him to take the seat on the other side.

“Of course.” Kitty batted her eyelashes. “Isn’t that the point?”

“Do you know you have the sexiest damn feet?”

“Uh huh.” She slapped his hand off her thigh. “You’ve told me before. And we have a much larger crowd today, so be a good boy—for a change—if you can.”

He leaned away from her and chortled, then glanced over at the tote board. “It’d be a lot easier to be a good boy if you weren’t so intent on being a naughty girl.” He gave her a crooked smile and laid half the Daily Racing Form across her lap.

She scowled at him when she felt his fingers toying with the hem of her skirt, which had ridden half way up her thigh. “If you persist on being bad, I’ll have to spank you when we get back home.”

He withdrew his hand from under the newspaper and leaned over to whisper in her ear. “Is that a promise?”

BLURB

Bad boy meets bad girl. Is there anything more?

Passionate, hard working and every inch a business woman, Chicago realtor Kitty Paige likes her sex raw and edgy, and sees no reason to limit herself to just one man. Never married and not quite forty, the striking blonde has successfully raised her daughter, Susan, and is already pushing her new-found freedom to the limits.

Wealthy commodities middle-man and race horse owner Jared Jacobs is father of the best man at Susan’s wedding. He is smitten by the vision in yellow who exudes sex as she escorts her daughter down the aisle. Also single, the handsome mustached California ranch owner with mischievous eyes views his sex life as a series of splendid love affairs, and sets out to make Kitty next on the list.

Together and apart, their chemistry is explosive, and their sparkling repartee and steamy sex catch both partners by surprise. Jared is first to recognize he’s fallen in love. When Kitty panics, can Jared finesse his every move and reel her in?

My Writing Process ~ Blog Tour

March 3, 2014 by Adriana Kraft

Welcome to the My Writing Process Blog Tour – a Monday feature where authors talk about their process and tag three more authors to share next Monday. Fellow Red Hot Authors Café author Lynda Bailey tagged me last week – you’ll want to be sure to check her post at this LINK. Thanks, Lynda! At the end of today’s post, I’ll tag three authors who’ll be joining the tour next Monday.

Q. What am I working on?

Sometimes I think my husband and I have too many irons in the fire. It seems we always have two or three new WIPs in various stages, plus some finished novels to edit and submit or publish, not to mention marketing everything that’s already out there.

Right now? Three unfinished manuscripts: First, an erotic romantic suspense (is there such a genre? We can think of no other descriptor for this book) entitled Next Man In – ménage, intrigue, a murderous villain on a personal vendetta against our hero, and a spunky pair of rodeo barrel riders for heroines. We love these characters – we just need to fill in some more details on the suspense plot.

Ripening PassionSecond: Book Four in our Passion series at Whiskey Creek, set in our (fictitious) New York based Institute that studies sexuality and creates educational sex videos. We’re having fun exploring what happens to romance with characters who have sex on camera for a living. Readers seem to like it, too.

Third: A time-travel series under contract with Extasy Books. The opener, set in Wales during the Roman occupation of the British Isles, is already finished, but we’re finding ever new complexities with these characters and their descendents as we bring them forward to the present day.

What that means for our process is that at any given time, a couple things have to sit on a back burner while we play with whatever’s hot. This week, it’s our rodeo riders.

Q. How does my work differ from others of its genre? The easy answer: most of our erotic romance features ménage – but very few authors are writing ménage for one man and two women. We also feature main characters across the age spectrum, including some in their fifties and even sixties. We’re out to prove Miley Cyrus wrong – great sex hardly stops at forty!

Q. Why do I write what I do? We started writing erotic romance because we hoped it would sell, but there’s a bigger reason. We’re baby boomers. It didn’t take us long to figure out that a lot of people our age have given up on sex. Clearly that hasn’t happened for us :), but we’re passionate about writing scenes that partners might like to read together to add a little heat or fantasy to their sex lives. So we write what we love to read (well, and fantasize, and watch, when we have time). Both of us especially love the possibilities that open up when we feature two women together. Readers might expect that an f/f/m ménage means two women focused on a man (and we know lots of men fantasize about this). But in our stories, we never put two women in the same bed without featuring their attraction for each other. Our stories are never about pleasure and fulfillment for just one person – we always strive for balance across our characters, no matter how many of them we throw in the bed at the same time.

Q. How does your writing process work? We’re a writing team. When a new story idea strikes us (and that can happen anywhere, anytime) we start noodling with it and taking copious notes, including on a napkin, if that’s all we have. A broad plot arc comes first, but then we spend long hours meeting our characters: who are they, where have they come from, what drives them, what tragedies and pain do they struggle with, what are they afraid of and why – background that might never show up on the page, but the stuff of their “real” lives. Then we start writing on page one. Every few pages we read what’s been written out loud and talk through what’s coming next. Once we write “the end,” it’s on to the seemingly endless edits. We take turns going completely through it until we think it shines.

Q. Who will we meet next week?

I co-founded the author group Midnight Seductions in 2007, and these authors have become my friends and support on the journey. I’m thrilled to showcase three of them in the Writing Process Blog Tour – watch for their posts on March 10:

EM Lynley

Beth Wylde

It’s a Tough Job…

December 17, 2012 by Adriana Kraft

But somebody’s got to do it!

“Research,” I mean. No, not that kind, though hubs and I enjoy our share of that, too.

I’m talking about combing the web every morning for the latest tips, guides, and resources to spice up your sex life. Of course, we hope you include sharing sizzling scenes from our erotic romances – that’s why we write them, after all.

When we find something we like, we share it on our Facebook PAGE – hop over there and “like” us to feed our finds into your Facebook newstream.

Already we love how this is enriching our own life. I’m an early riser, so most mornings by the time I take my husband his first cup of coffee, my brain is buzzing with sexy ideas I’ve found and I’m ready to plot new scenes and stories (or activities :)). We’re sure finding more ideas than we’ll be able to try out in one lifetime – but we’ll bring you the best of them, and sometimes also blog about them.

One of our faves is the Good Vibrations online magazine, The Buzz, at http://goodvibesblog.com. This morning, they had some great tips for staying present during sex – you know, not leaving our bodies or making the holiday to-do list or fostering anxious thoughts that take us away from the pleasure of the moment.

It’s a fabulous article packed with good advice. My personal favorite (and one I practice regularly) is #3: “Third, before sex, spend 30 minutes to an hour doing whatever makes you feel hot.” This can be a marvelous prelude to set the mood and ramp up the eroticism. It can be whatever works for you – perhaps a soothing bubble bath, your favorite adult videos, a massage with scented oils, or reading a spicy erotic scene, alone or together.

Here’s the link – enjoy!

Writing #GLBTQ Literature

August 24, 2012 by Adriana Kraft

Welcome to the Rainbow Book Reviews Blog Hop! Be sure to click on the graphic to link to the rest of the participants. Lots of fabulous prizes – leave a comment to enter, for ours as well as all the grand prizes. We’re offering one free download, reader’s choice, from our published books.

What does writing GLBTQ literature mean to us? We’re a married couple writing erotic romance together under our pen name, Adriana Kraft. We’re also proud parents of a gay son, members of our local PFLAG chapter, and social activists who’ve supported causes we believe in across more decades than we necessarily want to count.

Nearly three and a half years ago, we stood with other supporters on the steps of our local county Courthouse on an April afternoon awaiting word on the Iowa Supreme Court’s marriage equality decision. We were prepared to stand for our values whichever way the decision went – and we were thrilled with the outcome (and blogged about it, HERE). I don’t think we can say it better than one of us told a reporter that afternoon: “Love is love, and every couple deserves a happy ending.”

So that’s one major reason we write what we write: to celebrate love wherever it can be found, and to share with the world our belief that all persons, whatever their sexual orientation, deserve equality under the law when they form a love relationship.

There’s more of course – we do write erotic romance, after all, and our tag line is Erotic Romance for Two, Three, or More. There are so many varieties and combinations under the rainbow banner. We’re especially partial to scenes and stories that feature two women together, whether lesbian or bisexual. Our short stories and novels explore what’s possible for women (well, and the occasional man) who can’t fit themselves neatly into the box labeled “straight.” Sometimes their foray into same sex relationships turns out to be a small part of coming into their own sexually, as in Mistress of Purgatory Point. More often, same sex erotic encounters become more central for them, and they find a range of solutions for ongoing expression of their entire spectrum of sexuality. We write a world where three- and even four-way committed relationships are not only possible but welcomed.

We hope you’ll leave us a comment on why GLBTQ literature matters to you, and what your favorite pairings are. We’ll pull a winner by random number Monday morning, August 27. Good luck!

Winner and New Release!

July 2, 2012 by Adriana Kraft

Drum roll, please!  The Random Number Generator has spoken, and our Winner in the Angels and Demons BlogHop is…

#29, Tyggy! I’ll be sending you your copy of Colors of the Night – hope you enjoy it. It should be right up your alley, judging from your comment 🙂

And a drum roll too for the grand prize winners:

Stephanie, Winner #1291, who won a Kindle Fire, and
Drake, Winner # 4695, who won an Amazon $60 Gift Card

It was a fabulous hop and I loved all your comments – hmm, hadn’t thought about an Angel’s extra added attraction of feathers, you were all very creative!

Our newest book was just released Sunday at Extasy Books! No angels or demons in this one (but you can bet we’re cooking some up for later) – just a happily married pair of baby boomers with an empty nest, trying to spice up their sex life. They’ve been doing great so far with exciting adventures in the swing lifestyle. Here’s the  cover, blurb and an excerpt:

The sought-after Unicorn, so elusive in the Swing Lifestyle. Now that Sarah Creston has materialized in Jen and Brett Andrews’ bed, what’s next?

BLURB

It all seemed so simple: Sarah Creston would move in for the summer, Brett and Jen Andrews could revel in their new threesome, and everyone else would understand. But now Donna and Ryan – their best friends and lovers – won’t speak to them, and Jen seems so infatuated with Sarah that even Brett is worried about the consequences.

Battered from the double whammy of her husband’s death and caring for her aging parents, Sarah Creston thrills to Jen and Brett’s exquisite care and ravishing sex. Now that she’s had her first taste of a woman, will she be satisfied – or will she want more?  Everything hinges on what Sarah wants.

EXCERPT

Feeling like a human sponge, Sarah sighed. Her eyelids fluttered open and shut as she tried to survey the scene around her, but all five senses were on overload.

“This is beyond my wildest imagination,” she mumbled to no one in particular.

Completely nude, she lay on her back atop Carl and Alice’s massage table. Her naked partners had already rubbed down every square inch of her backside—every square inch before turning her over to tend to her front. Sarah laced the fingers of her right hand through Jen’s hair as her lover suckled a breast as if it were their very first time. Similarly, Brett continued tonguing her other breast.

“We’re pleased that you’re pleased,” Carl said, bending over to kiss Sarah’s forehead without interrupting his steady massage of her temples.

“You’re amazing,” she whispered, puckering her lips while reaching up to pull his lips closer to hers. She sighed again as his lips covered hers for another soul searching kiss. Both he and his wife had proven to be incredible kissers. She could hardly wait to see what else they might be incredible at doing to her—or with her.

“Ah,” Sarah moaned. Her hips tensed.

Smiling, Carl broke their kiss and continued massaging her brow, giving her ample opportunity to appreciate Alice’s warm breath flowing over her pussy.

“Relax,” Alice cooed, blowing on her again.

Sarah did her best to soften her muscles, to sink deeper into the massage table and trust her body to her lovers.
