When your ex-boyfriend finally has the life he always wanted, it would take a real asshole to interfere with that…but not like Bode’s ever said he’s not an asshole.

Blurb

Bode Harlan has never claimed to be a good guy, but he’s trying to keep his nose clean and his head down these days.

After a year in prison for assault–and to be fair, he did it–he isn’t looking to go back. Admittedly, his pretty face being the star attraction in an illegal underground fighting ring seems to run counter to that goal, but he’s gotta pay the bills and there ain’t much else he’s good at.

And it keeps his parole officer off his back…since she runs the place.

Then his mom skips town and her boyfriend kicks Bode’s 14 year old brother out on the street. Bode grew up in and out of foster care, he doesn’t want that for Danny. It’s not like he can take the kid in, though. He’s an ex-con who gets beat up twice a month for money. That’s how he ends up on his good-natured ex-boyfriend’s doorstep. Sonny is a soft touch. At least he always was for Bode. All he wants is somewhere to crash for a couple of nights, nothing more. Sonny’s got his life together now–a home, a boyfriend, even a dog–and it would take a real asshole to want to blow that up.

…of course, Bode’s never said he wasn’t an asshole.

Excerpt

SONNY SLAMMED THE door. Or tried to. Before it closed, Bode shoved his boot into the gap, and the heavy wood bounced off leather and bone.

Bode winced and had the balls to look put out. The cooking show Sonny had been halfway through rattled on in the background. It wasn’t the soundtrack that Sonny had imagined for his first reunion with his sort-of ex. That had either been Driver’s License or Bad Guy, depending on his mood.

“Why do you assume I want something?” Bode asked. His hair was shorter than it used to be—making it look darker, more red than ginger—and a bruise had just started to bloom around one of his eyes. At some point, Sonny knew it would fade down to a marshy green that nearly matched Bode’s eyes. He’d seen that happen before.

Back when Bode’s bruises had been Sonny’s business. That had been a while ago.

“Why else would you be here?” Sonny asked. He could hear it in his voice—the dredged-up hurt, the once-broken heart—but he doubted Bode would notice. It wasn’t the sort of thing he cared about. Other people and how what he did affected them were not Bode’s area of expertise. Sonny checked the time. “At nearly midnight.”

Bode shrugged, one-sided and laconic. “Maybe I wanted to tell you I’m out.”

“You’ve been out for three months,” Sonny said.

“Keeping tabs?” Bode asked with a slow, smug smile. It probably hurt as it creased along the edges of the bruise, but he didn’t let that stop him. “I didn’t know you still cared.”

“I don’t,” Sonny said. It wasn’t true. He cared, but that didn’t have to mean anything. It didn’t mean anything. “Just pointing out you’ve had plenty of time to drop by, yet this is the first time I’ve seen you. What happened? We keep missing each other?”

“You always got up too early for me.”

Sonny was surprised at how angry that made him. He wasn’t stupid. Bode knew that. So why stick to his stupid lie when they both knew Bode wouldn’t cross the street to see Sonny, not unless he had an ulterior motive. His temper felt like a head cold, the pressure of it at the back of his eyes. Usually it took him a long, grudging time to get mad about something, but Bode had been an asshole for years, so that pump was about ready to blow.

Except Sonny didn’t like it when he lost his temper. He didn’t like being out of control. It never ended well. He bit the inside of his cheek, a knot of old scar tissue from the habit gritty between his teeth, and throttled the hot emotion back.

“Right, well,” he said. “Whatever. If that was the only reason you’re here, job done. Now I know. I’m glad for you.”

He opened the door. Bode had the balls to look smug, as if he’d known that Sonny would come round. More fool him. Sonny braced his hands flat against Bode’s chest and gave him a shove that made him stagger backward.

“You can still fuck off,” Sonny repeated and slammed the door.

He turned around and leaned back against the door while he waited. On the TV screen, a woman in a white chef’s coat was trying to do something to a side of beef with a coat hanger. The dog had taken the opportunity to crawl up onto the couch and bury her head under a cushion, as if there was no way Sonny would see her whole ass sticking out.

Five.

Four.

Three.

The idea that he might have gotten it wrong—that Bode might have actually fucked off—had just started to nibble at the back of Sonny’s mind. He hated—really, honestly hated—that it would bother him if Bode had.

It wasn’t that he deluded himself that Bode couldn’t leave things unsaid with him—that was how Bode preferred to leave things. It was just that they’d known each other since they were kids, and Bode didn’t easily give up on anything he wanted. It would be weird if that changed now. No, the reason Bode was here was because he wanted something.

And two…

“I need somewhere to crash,” Bode said through the door. “Just for a couple of nights, until I sort something out.”

EXCERPT

New York, New York 2014

Continuing where we left off last week: Detective Tom Walker has just met the subject of his investigation…Now we’re in Rosanne’s point of view:

Glancing in her rearview mirror at the detective fuming near his car, Rosanne couldn’t suppress a shudder. While she and Simone always knew they’d have to have a lot of luck not to attract the attention of a cop before completing their research, it still was a little unnerving to come face to face with one. He’d nearly spoiled her day. Her early-morning rendezvous with Ben had provided a wealth of information on the life of the over-the-road trucker.

And then the cop was waiting for her. He’d acted rather befuddled by her presence. She liked that, a lot. She hadn’t been afraid he’d arrest her. He had no evidence, because there was no evidence to get. She might be a working girl, but not the kind he suspected.

She checked her mirror. Would he follow her? She shook her head. He probably already knew who she was. She’d seen him nosing around a couple times. And he’d followed her the previous week to the car rental. He probably already had her name and address, but he’d seemed more than a little puzzled by her card.

Maybe he’d give up now that he’d confronted her. She smacked her lips. Detective Walker didn’t strike her as a man who gave up easily. Would he stalk her? Would he come to the Center to question her, or Melissa and Harry Gage, the Center directors? If he did, he’d be in for a surprise or two.

She’d have to warn her friends and mentors about his interest, not that the Center activities hadn’t been scrutinized before. There were many folks out there—too many—who didn’t appreciate the mission of the Center to foster healthy sexual relationships across the lifespan. Toward that end, the Center produced and distributed instructional videos affirming most forms of sexual practices between consenting adults, as well as a catalogue of toys, lubricants, and other sexual aides. Its work had become more sophisticated and more embracing since its inception in the mid-sixties. Its market had also grown geometrically.

She was proud of her work and knew firsthand how the Center had helped to save marriages. If it hadn’t been for the Center, she wasn’t certain her own grandparents would’ve made it. It was Grandma Agnes who had sought help from the Center and encouraged Grandpa Max to volunteer with her. Their work on camera had drawn considerable praise and offered hope to many older couples. After Grandma Agnes died, Grandpa Max eventually hooked up with Claire Johnson, who’d spent her entire career with the Center—the woman Grandma Agnes had sought out as her coach.

Rosanne ran a brush through her short hair. And now it was her turn to promote the work of the Center. She peeked at the rearview mirror. And no damn cop was going to make her think less of her work.

Grinning at the memory of his gaze roving over her, she couldn’t help but wonder if he’d go out and rent a semi and call her. She was familiar with that look. For a moment, he hadn’t been a cop assessing a suspect. He’d been an aroused man assessing a woman.

BLURB

Now in her late twenties, Rosanne Falcon’s life has finally come together—a Ph.D., a prestigious research job, and two exquisite lovers, one of each gender, to complete the package. The intense bond she shares with Simone Stone was augmented rather than broken when Simone met and married Boyd Roberts, and the three have forged a fulfilling polyamory relationship. More would only be trouble.

Widowed by a tragic accident several years earlier, Detective Thomas Walker is nearing retirement after twenty years on the police force and ready to change careers. Fully convinced the hot redhead who meets truckers at the rest area he’s staked out is a prostitute, he sets out to build his case against her. He is dead wrong, but each layer he uncovers of what she really does for a living challenges long held assumptions. Can he overcome his deep-seated bias to make room for what’s possible?

EXCERPT

Set up: Tom has been watching an explicit Center video featuring Rosanne…

Tom glanced at the business card on the arm of his chair. He’d punched in her number several times, but never followed through with placing the call. He punched it in again. Closing his eyes, he pushed the send button.

Holding the phone to his ear, he listened to the ring tone and focused on the frozen shot on the TV screen of Simone’s tongue touching Rosanne’s hooded clit.

Seven rings. She must not be near her phone. He’d just started to put the phone down when he heard her voice.

“It took you long enough to call,” Rosanne accused lightly.

He chuckled. “And a warm hello to you, too. I had a lot of things to square away.”

She remained silent.

“I talked with Sam and another of his buddies. They confirmed your story.”

“Told you he would.”

“Yeah, he thinks you walk on water.”

She chuckled. “I haven’t tried that. I can hardly swim. Then I’m no longer a person of professional interest?”

He grimaced, eyeing the TV screen. “Nope.”

There was a pause. “So am I a person of interest, or are you ready to move on with your life? Is this just a courtesy call, Detective? Or do you have something else on your mind?”

“I’m watching a DVD of yours.”

“Really? Ooh.”

He could almost hear her perk up.

“You and your Simone friend.”

“What a coincidence,” Rosanne murmured. “You like to watch two women making love?”

“I didn’t know I did.” He chuckled low and pulled his robe sash tighter. “I also like the good neighbor policy you and Melissa worked out on a different fantasy video.”

“Ummm. That’s one of my favorites. Perhaps you have better taste than I thought. You have been busy – Oh!”

Tom frowned at the phone. “Are you alone?”

“Good God. Wait. I was wondering if you were going to ask. If you’re really watching the video of me and Simone, you may want to fast forward to the section with Simone lying between my legs licking my pussy.”

“That’s where I paused it,” he grunted. “Damn hot. Are you telling me you answered the phone while she was loving you?”

“Is loving me. Maybe I didn’t make my situation clear. Oh damn. Go slow, Simone. I wouldn’t answer for just anyone, Detective. Did you have something to else to ask me?”

“No.” He hesitated. “I was just thinking of you.”

“That’s nice,” she purred. “How many times have you jerked off watching my videos?”

He swallowed. “I haven’t kept count.”

She clucked her tongue. “Touché. At least you’re honest. I don’t count orgasms either. Is your guy handy now?”

“He’s been poking out of my robe since he heard your voice.”

“And we haven’t even met yet. Why don’t you punch play and join us? Leave the DVD volume on mute.”

Tom closed his eyes briefly. This was not the moment to deny why he’d called her in the first place. He’d just thought it would be the two of them having phone sex. “Okay.”

“Tongue me, Simone. We’ve got a listener tonight. Oh, she wants to say hi first.”

“Looking forward to meeting you, Detective,” came the higher pitched voice. “It’s nice to know we have a cock with us tonight. My husband is traveling.”

“Oh,” Tom mumbled. “Good to meet you, too.”

“Oh yes,” Rosanne murmured a moment later. “She’s butterfly kissing me. Are you with us, Tom?”

“I’m here.”

“She’s wedging her tongue in. Oh my. Tongue and finger.”

He heard her gasping for air and his fist moved up and down his rigid cock. On the screen, she was kicking Simone’s back and thrusting her pelvis, encouraging tongue and fingers.

“I’m building. She’s almost got me. I’m imagining it’s your tongue, Tom. Are you?”

“I am,” he groaned. His arm began to ache.

“And your mustache,” she whimpered. “Are you going to come with me?”

“I will. Let me know when.” He trained his eyes on the two women on the screen while listening to the sounds they made miles away.

There was a long pause.

“Now,” she yelped. “Come with me.”

“I am,” he muttered, jerking in his chair. “Son of a bitch,” he shouted at the TV as one spasm tumbled after another until he finished.

“Hope that was as good for you as it was for us.” It was Simone’s voice. “That was huge on this end.” Her chuckle tingled. “Looks like our lover is going to be nursing this one for quite a while. You probably need to clean up, right?”

“Yeah,” he grunted.

“I doubt she’ll call back tonight. Rosanne has another research encounter tomorrow morning and will need to get her rest.”

“Damn.”

“Thought that might interest you. Well, Detective, it’s been fun. Maybe one of these days I’ll get to help clean you up personally. Sleep well. Bye.”

A con man and a government agent walk into a carnival…

Blurb

Bartlett Gibson is a necromancer and an agent for the Tennessee Bureau of Supernatural Investigation. He’s hot on the trail of RJ Tucker, a psychic con man who has eluded him at every turn and led him on a merry chase. Pursuit leads to grudging respect in their game of cat and mouse, which becomes a high-stakes game of seduction. Bart chases RJ to the Carnival of Mysteries and realizes that nothing is as it seems. A dark witch’s curse ups the ante, creating a deadline for revenge and redemption, and the clock is ticking.

Falling in love breaks all the rules. Can Bart and RJ stop the witch, break the curse, and find a way around RJ’s spot on the “most wanted” list before time runs out?

Roustabout is a fast-paced MM paranormal romance filled with supernatural suspense, snarky humor, crafty carnival workers, sarcastic ghosts, midway magic, hurt/comfort angst, adversaries-to-lovers tension, and a very happy ending!

Part of the multi-author, shared-world Carnival of Mysteries series. Can be read as a stand-alone.

Excerpt

But first, reckless as it might be, RJ had a date.

He knew he was fussing too much over his hair—manicuring his stubble and manscaping— but it had been a long time since there’d been anyone to notice, and he was going to make the most of it.

RJ wore his best shirt, a russet one that complemented his hair and warmed his pale complexion. Together with a new pair of jeans and a pair of Timberlands that were a rare splurge, he knew he cleaned up well.

He drove to Rosco’s Barbecue and parked, then realized his palms were sweating as he gripped the steering wheel.

It’s just dinner, he told himself. But nobody had ever made him feel like Bart did.

He grew up fast on the circuit surrounded by roustabouts and wranglers who didn’t follow convention and largely lived outside the restrictions of polite society. RJ had plenty of boyfriends and lovers over the years. Those in the carnival life rarely expected permanence, and relationships seldom lasted more than a season.

Moving from place to place had been a necessary distraction in those years. He hadn’t wanted more than temporary connections since he still mourned the people he had loved and lost. The dream of vengeance had sustained him, and for a long time, that was enough.

But now, with the end of his quest in sight, RJ found himself wanting more. Maybe he could never tell a partner everything about his old life and the recompense he had dealt out, but perhaps he didn’t need to live in self-imposed solitude.

After all, people in WITSEC get married. This isn’t too much different.

God, I’ve got the cart before the horse. We haven’t even fucked properly, and I’m picking out china patterns. It’s just dinner. And maybe a blow job if I play my cards right.

He went inside and looked for Bart. When he didn’t see the tall man waiting, his stomach tightened, fearing he had been stood up.

Bart came in a moment later, looking harried. “Sorry. Work ran over. Have you been here long?” He looked like he really cared whether RJ had been worried.

RJ relaxed and gave a broad smile. “Just got here myself.” His stomach growled. “It smells so good in here, and I’m starving.”

They followed the hostess to a table. RJ saw Bart slip her a twenty to get a spot out of the thick of the fray. Rosco’s did a booming business, with food that deserved the buzz.

“Did you have a good day?” Bart asked after they had ordered. RJ thought it was charming that Bart seemed flustered.

Maybe he’s as out of practice as I am.

About the Author

Morgan Brice is the romance pen name of bestselling author Gail Z. Martin. Morgan writes urban fantasy MM paranormal romance, with plenty of action, adventure and supernatural thrills to go with the happily ever after. Gail writes epic and urban fantasy, with less romance, more explosions.

Each book can be read as a standalone, but the more you read the more the expanded universe of friendships and connections becomes clear.

EXCERPT

Picking up where we left off last Sunday from the opening scene, at their 20th college reunion:

Brenda glanced around the dimly lit college town hangout. “It’s hard to believe this place has barely changed in nearly twenty years, and we’ve changed so much.”

Janet nodded, glad for the change of subject—they’d spent too much time talking about her since arriving at the Golden Eagle. Brenda had suggested leaving the campus reunion party and checking out their old hangout. Janet thought that sounded good—she didn’t want others from their former house to hear her troubles. Why had she decided to come to a reunion after so many years anyway? She and Tom had never gone back.

Maybe that was why she’d come—she knew Tom wouldn’t. The campus was only half an hour from her Westchester County home. Still, it wasn’t like her to act on such a whim.

BLURB

Janet Baxter keeps her post-divorce life neatly compartmentalized: Secure job, spacious Westchester County home, successful adult children, dependable community volunteer activities. Why is she drawn—for the first time ever—to attend her twenty-year college reunion in New York City?

Always a free spirit, Brenda Cassidy is comfortably bisexual and has no plans to ever settle down. But a fling? The reappearance of svelte, reserved Janet Baxter in Brenda’s life is nothing less than a gift, worthy of every enticement Brenda can conjure up. Can Brenda seduce Janet into an endless night of the lovemaking they enjoyed too briefly as college roommates? What if the lady wants more?

Five Stars at Goodreads: “Building up the sexual tension between these two is the heart of this book. When they finally give in, I was right there with them. They are HOT! … a quick read but so well written I did not want it to end.”

GUEST POST

Clockwork and Concupiscence

I’ve always felt an affinity for the Victorian period. I was wearing high-necked blouses with cameos, long flowing skirts, and lace-up boots in my teens, long before they were fashionable. (The corsets came later…!) With my long hair parted in the middle and pulled back into a bun, I could well have been one of the heroines in the books I loved so much.

I was also a science geek from my earliest days. I received my first microscope when I was five, and my first chemistry set at seven. I entered every science fair. In seventh grade, I won grand prize on a televised science quiz show.

So it’s hardly surprising I’ve become a devotee of steam punk. I’ve been in love with this strange meld of science fiction and Victoriana for as long as I can remember – long before steam punk even had a name.  When I was in high school, I devoured H.G. Wells and H. Rider Haggard, and shared a Sherlock Holmes obsession with my dad. Later, I marveled at Neal Stephenson’s The Diamond Age and more recently, I discovered Gordon Dahlquist’s incredible The Glass Books of the Dream Eaters.

I’ve written a number of steam punk short stories for anthologies, as well as a full length novel, Rajasthani Moon. All these tales, though, were set in Asia rather than in the British Isles. I think I was afraid I’d make errors my UK readers would notice if I tried setting a story in Queen Victoria’s home country. In my steam punk trilogy The Toymakers Guild I finally bit the bullet and wrote an English steam punk novel. I had a lot of help with details from my critique group at the Erotica Readers & Writers Association, but of course I take responsibility for any residual mistakes.

I just hope you’ll find the story so exciting, you won’t notice them!

EXCERPT

X rated

“Enough!” she said, pushing herself into a half-sit. “Enough foreplay. I’ve been nearly two weeks without your cocks. I want you inside me.”

Rafe swung his legs onto the bed so he could stretch out beside her.

She reached out to capture his steely erection and gave it a squeeze. He felt bigger and harder than she remembered. He moaned in response.

Jeremiah crawled up the other side, between her body and the wall, and lay on his side, his head propped up on his hand. His luscious dark cock prodded her thigh, streaking her pale skin with pre-cum. Without relinquishing her grip on Rafe’s member, she stroked Jeremiah’s shaft, savouring the way the velvet-soft skin slid over the steel beneath.

“Oh, Jill! That’s marvellous!” Rafe murmured. “Though if you keep it up, I’ll spend faster than a ruptured cistern.”

“I’m not sure I can hold on either.” Jeremiah gritted his teeth as she ran her thumb over the knob, then tickled the sensitive ridge underneath. “But we’ll do our best for your sake. Who do you want first?”

“That should be you, Jerry, given that I got first taste.”

“No, it’s Jill’s choice.”

Heart racing like a runaway locomotive, Gillian looked from one man to the other. “I don’t want to choose. I want you both inside me.”

Jeremiah bolted upright, his eyes wide. “At the same time?”

She nodded, amused by his apparent shock.

Rafe rolled off the bed and onto his feet, grinning broadly. He knew her better than the Jamaican did. After all, they’d shared the Master’s aphrodisiac wine.

“I – um – how…?”  Jeremiah’s habitual poise had utterly fled. Despite his carnal aptitude, it was clear that certain things were outside the realm of his experience.

“Lie on your back,” Jill instructed. “You’re thicker than Rafe, so I think I’d rather have you in my cunny.” She scooted toward the outside edge of the mattress to give him room, then quickly removed her drawers. “This time, at least,” she added mischievously.

Jeremiah made an arousing picture, stretched out with his magnificent prick pointed toward the ceiling. Kneeling, Gillian straddled him and aligned her slit with the pinkish head. She lowered her body just enough to let her lower lips brush over the tip, then tilted her pelvis a few times to coat him with her juices.

The man below her groaned. “Don’t play with me,” he begged. “Take me, before it’s too late.”

She bent to press a brief kiss to Jeremiah’s succulent mouth. “I’m sure you can manage to control yourself,” she told him. As slowly she could manage, inch by careful inch, she let herself sink down, impaling herself on his cock.

After her weeks of chastity, her cunny was tight and almost unbearably sensitive. Jeremiah’s substantial bulk slid across her inner walls, stretching and opening her in the most delicious way imaginable. Her memories of their two previous couplings were not in error. The fit was perfect, filling her to the hilt and stimulating every nerve, without the slightest hint of pain.

“Oh, God, Jill! I can’t believe how good you feel.” He grasped her hips and arched up, burying himself more deeply.

Gillian clenched her cunt-muscles around his shaft. Jeremiah’s cock swelled and shuddered inside her. “Don’t move yet,” she said. “And please, don’t spend. I want us all to come together.” She flopped onto her hands and knees, her face close enough to Jeremiah’s for her to claim another quick kiss, then looked over her shoulder at Rafe.

“You know what to do, my dear.”

The wiry journeyman nodded. “Do you have anything I can use for lubricant?” he asked.

Gillian considered the question. Why hadn’t she visited the kitchen after dinner? She shook her head, annoyed that she hadn’t prepared more carefully for this evening. “I’m sorry.”

“Never mind.” He flashed her an angelic smile. “Don’t worry. I won’t hurt you.”

She let her head fall onto Jeremiah’s chest in order to elevate her arse. His skin was warm and slightly damp with sweat. She could hear the Jamaican’s heartbeat, fast and regular. She could feel the same pulse in the cock embedded in her quim. She sensed his tension, the near-irresistible desire to thrust, but he managed to remain still.

Thank you, she thought. Thank you both.

REVIEWS

The Journeyman’s Trial, The Toymakers Guild Book 2

Although set in the Victorian era, the denizens of Randerley Hall are thoroughly modern in the enthusiastic and open way they embrace their sexuality, pushing boundaries with the same vigor and gusto they push the boundaries of science. The members of The Guild embrace all manner of delightfully kinky perversions, while making scientific breakthroughs that are far ahead of their time. “The Journeyman’s Trial” has everything—adventure, romance, intrigue, and sizzling sensuality. I highly recommend you take the plunge and dive in. ~ Lawrence Westerman, Amazon

The Master’s Mark, The Toymakers Guild Book 3

… an excellent example of lusty yet tasteful erotica with an engaging plot and characters the reader actually cares about. The richly crafted steampunk setting, the chemistry between the characters, and the lusty passion heating up every page all come together in this breathtaking finale of the Toymakers series. ~ Michael Swanson, Amazon
