BLURB

What is Carol up to now? Mack has always known his free-spirited wife is bisexual, but it seems she has new adventures on her mind this Christmas season.

Carol has long entertained fantasies of a threesome with herself, her husband, and their attractive nearby neighbor, Tara. Now that Tara’s troublesome ex is out of the picture, is this the season to make Carol’s fantasies come true?

Tara’s felt a little deprived since breaking things off with her ex, and she’ll admit she envies what Mack and her best friend Carol seem to share. If they invite her to join them, will she dare?

EXCERPT

Set Up: Carol, Mack, and Tara are unwrapping presents together by the Christmas tree.

Ten Sentences…

“Look, here are two more gifts…from Santa. One for me and one for Tara.” Carol gave Mack her best pout. “Sorry, honey, looks like Santa forgot you.” She winked at Tara. “We’ll have to try to make it up to Mack later.”

“So sorry, Mack,” Tara played along. “You must’ve really been a bad boy for Santa to leave you nothing.” She grinned at Carol. “But we good girls weren’t forgotten. What do you suppose Santa wanted to give us?”

And a little more…

“Let’s see.” Carol handed one light package to Tara and they both began to carefully pull at the tissue paper.

“Oh my,” Tara gasped. “Santa has sexy naughty taste.”

“He does, doesn’t he?” Carol held up a sheer pale white camisole and watched Tara do the same. “They match,” she said as if surprised.

Mack cleared his throat. “Wow.”

“Do you think Santa got the right sizes?” Carol looked at Tara.

Tara made a show of carefully examining the thin material. “Hard to tell. He must’ve forgotten to get us bottoms.”

Tara’s felt a little deprived since breaking things off with her ex, and she’ll admit she envies what Mack and her best friend Carol seem to share. If they invite her to join them, will she dare?

EXCERPT [PG]

It’s getting closer and closer to Christmas – Carol has been planning a very special gift for herself and Mack. Just now they’re sitting in their north woods hot tub under a blanket of stars in early December…

Ten Sentences

“That’s right,” Mack said, “this is the first Christmas since Tara broke up with that asshole, Dereck. Don’t know how she could tolerate such an idiot.”

“Neither does she, now. At least she kept putting off letting him move in with her.”

“Thank God. Can you imagine him for a neighbor?”

“Fortunately, we don’t have to. It’s been eight months. I think we should invite Tara for Christmas Eve. Are you okay with that? I know Christmas Eve is a special time for you. Well, for both of us.”

And a little more…

“No, of course. We can share some of our Christmas Eve traditions with Tara. Maybe she has some, too.”

“And if we get too sloshed, she can stay over.”

“If we stay up until midnight to usher in Christmas like we usually do, the temperature is going to be well below zero. She can stay over if she wants. We’ll need to be sure she has enough presents to unwrap. But…there is one thing.” Mack gave Carol a quizzical look.

“What’s that?” The reflection from the hot tub showed her naughty expression.

“Our Christmas morning playtime.”

Carol giggled. “It’s a tradition. Do you think maybe Tara might enjoy playing with us?”

“Together?” He knew he sounded dumb. This wasn’t the first time his wife had dangled that possibility before him.

“Well, I doubt we’d need separate rooms. What do you think? Wouldn’t Tara make a delightful Christmas gift?

He quickly decided he needed more information before answering that question. Was there a wrong answer?

“I don’t need a hunk…” #SnippetSunday #SnipSun #WeekendWritingWarriors #EroticRomance #LaterInLife #MFRWAuthors

Here’s the third Sunday Snippet from my mid-life Christmas story The Reluctant Santa.

EXCERPT

Sue, who set up their lunch meeting, is unimpressed with Cliff’s invitation for a “first date” – to join him at an outdoor skating and sleigh ride party his store is hosting for their hockey team. She and Carol are on the phone.

Ten sentences:

“I don’t need a hunk,” Carol said. “Cliff seemed quite nice. He’s not pushy and doesn’t just talk about himself and his achievements as so many men seem to do.”

“So you were impressed. At least a little bit.”

“A little bit. He’s different, in a good way. At least so far. I only met him once.”

“These days once often leads to the bedroom, girl.”

“Not this girl.”

And a little more…

“You definitely break the mold. Anyway, will you invite Cliff in for a nightcap when he takes you home after this smashing party?”

“I hadn’t thought about it,” Carol lied. “Maybe I’ll call Uber to save him the trip.”

“Right. That would definitely kill whatever might’ve been.”

“Whatever I do, it will feel right for me. I’m not going into this with a written script.”

“Though you do want to control the pace.”

Frowning, Carol sighed. “Maybe.”

REVIEW

5 Stars: “Loved it. This was a fun book with a great storyline. Carol and Cliff had super hot chemistry that made this even better. They made for a steamy story. It’s a definite must read!”

He didn’t give her time to rethink… #SnippetSunday #SnipSun #WeekendWritingWarriors #EroticRomance #LaterInLife #MFRWAuthors

For two more Sundays, I’m sharing snippets from my mid-life Christmas story The Reluctant Santa.

EXCERPT

Cliff and Carol have just finished the lunch Carol’s friend paid for.

Ten sentences…

Cliff let the silence go on a bit longer than was comfortable. “Okay, I guess one of us has to take the leap. We could leave and I could wait two or three days before calling you, wondering if you’d want to get together again. That seems like jumping through a lot of unnecessary hoops and added stress. We either want to get to know each other better or we don’t. Frankly, I find you intriguing, and I’d like to spend more time with you. I’m sure that wasn’t very romantic. I’m afraid I lean toward the practical too much at times.”

Carol absentmindedly wet her lips as if debating whether or not to take that leap. She nodded.

And a little more…

“Sure. Actually, I appreciate practical. I find it to be a rare commodity in the men I’ve met.“

He noted she hadn’t commented on romantic. “I take it that was at least a lukewarm yes about getting together again.” He didn’t give her time to rethink. “This may not be your thing, but a week from Saturday, my store is sponsoring an early winter event for our hockey teams with their families and friends. It involves a hayride with real horses—no tractor for us—ice skating at the rink we use for the teams, and of course plenty of food, including roasted marshmallows and wieners, hot cocoa, and I’m sure a lot more. There won’t be alcohol. I’d love to have you join me. I will have some responsibilities, but I’ll be free most of the night.” He paused and swallowed. “Do you skate? Are you interested? Is that too old-fashioned…hay ride…why am I babbling?”

Fifty is hardly old… #SnippetSunday #SnipSun #WeekendWritingWarriors #EroticRomance #LaterInLife #MFRWAuthors

For the next three Sundays, I’ll be sharing snippets from my mid-life Christmas story The Reluctant Santa.

EXCERPT

Ten sentences…

Chapter One

Sitting at the restaurant table, Carol Hawkins looked up to see her best friend tap her cell for a message. Carol tried not to grimace as she glanced at Cliff Rutgers, the new man Sue Harper had decided to introduce to her—as if she was in the market for yet another man. Did he have any clue what Sue was up to? For sure Sue’s message would be urgent, and Sue would have to rush off to put out a fire of some sort, leaving Carol and Cliff to their own devices.

She loved Sue—they’d been through so much together, starting in college. Sue had been a rock when Carol’s husband died eight years ago. But Sue could have a one-track mind. Ever since the sixth anniversary of Harry’s death, Sue had decided it was time for Carol to step out and date again. Carol had heard the refrains over and over. Fifty is hardly old…Harry would want you to move on and continue living.

~

…and a little more:

It wasn’t exactly like she’d stopped living. She had a career, two kids, and so many volunteer activities she sometimes wondered how she could fit everything in. There wasn’t room for a man. She did miss the intimacy she and Harry shared—she missed it a lot. She just didn’t think it could ever be replicated.
