THE JOY OF WRITING
They always tell you to find that job that fills you with joy. If you love it, it won’t feel like a job. That’s what writing is like for me. Creating characters and writing stories for them is something I don’t think I can describe.
As with every new author, when I first started writing it was to learn. I found I had a knack for dialogue. I was told that is the one thing that can’t be taught. A writer can learn everything else, but dialogue, especially witty dialogue, needs to flow naturally. Believe me, when I first started my stories were rough, mostly dialogue and very little description. I was told that my stories read like a screen play.
As I learned my craft I learned more about my style of writing. I found that humor creeps into my stories no matter what, so I don’t fight it. I also write in the paranormal genre. I love reading that genre, so it makes sense that I’d write in it. I also have this thing for quests. Don’t know why. I blame it on all those fantasies I read over the years.
The one thing I can tell you about The Power of the Tears is it was so much fun to write. It’s one of my favorites out of this werewolf series. I think I fell in love with my hero as I learned more and more about him. Catherine I already liked. She’s smart and strong, even though she is a female in the male dominant world of werewolves. She’s also a very powerful woman in that world which you don’t normally see in an alpha driven society.
When I did my world building I decided that I wanted my werewolves to be like anyone else. No howling at the moon, maybe when the sex is really good, but not at the moon. Silver bullets hurt just like regular ones. The only difference between them and a human is the shifting. Oh, and they do live a lot longer than we do. Better hearing, better eyesight, better taste buds…okay so there are a few differences, but nothing that can be seen.
All my men are alphas and my heroines have the strength to stand up to them. It makes for intriguing plots and great romances. I hope you fall in love with my people and their stories just like I did.
