Stay Sexy ~ Ageless Erotica Review

If you’re under thirty or even in your forties, you might never pick up this book, but you should. Ageless Erotica, edited by Joan Price, is a steamy collection of erotica by and about men and women over fifty. The book flies in the face of the notion that our sex lives have to diminish as we age, or that if we stay sexually active, we shouldn’t talk or write about it. The stories offer hope for those under fifty and will bring smiles of recognition, laughter, arousal, and delight to readers old enough to identify.

I was impressed by the wide range of stories, characters, plots, themes and creative sex acts across the collection. There’s solo sex, same and opposite gender sex, fantasy sex, married sex, pick-up sex, sex with a paid professional, a touch of kink – a little something for everyone, demonstrating that just as sex doesn’t have to stop as we age, neither does creativity and imagination. We’re told the authors range in age from fifty to eighty, and I take encouragement from that!

I did have some favorites. In “Invitation to Lunch,” Donna George Storey offers a touching erotic lunch break with a married couple, spiced with a dash of fantasy exhibitionism. “Sex with him is like truly fine old wine, each year adding more complexity and mystery.”

The theme of carrying a secret pleasure turned up in both “Other People’s Stuff,” by Susan St. Aubin, and ”Jaguar Dreams,” by Evvy Lynn. If you’ve ever wondered why old people are smiling to themselves, “Jaguar Dreams” will forever change your answer.

I also loved the open, tender married relationship in D.L. King’s “Mr. Smith, Ms. Jones will see you now.” Mr. Smith’s wife is never on the page, but always in his thoughts through each iteration of kink delivered by Ms. Jones, whose first appointment was gifted to him by the wife unable to enjoy the kink she knows he needs. This story captures so beautifully the rewards an open relationship can deliver to the primary couple, under the best of circumstances.

Joan Price is a highschool-English-teacher-turned-exercise professional after an automobile accident nearly claimed her life in 1979. She married the love of her life in her late fifties, lost him to cancer a mere seven years later, and turned her energies to celebrating the excitement, sizzle and sexuality she and others have discovered in later life. You can find all her books at her Amazon PAGE, and she blogs about sex and aging at Better Than I Ever Expected.

Hump Day Hook ~ Full Circle #HDH #poledancer

Here’s a different take on a superb form of aerobic exercise! We were talking on Sunday in our Stay Sexy column about the power of aerobic exercise to keep us supple, healthy, and sexy – so I got to thinking, which of our characters had the best workout routine? I’m thinking Barb, in Full Circle. Here’s the blurb, and a snippet from the opening pages:

BLURB

Exotic dancer Barbra Atkins has spent ten years carefully choreographing every step of her meteoric rise to success on the private club circuit. Now it’s payback time for the two college roommates who didn’t have time for their nerdy classmate ~ add three strapping spectacular hunks to the mix, and revenge can be so sweet!

The Three of Cups:

Bounty, abundance, celebration, fruition…
all have come full circle

CHAPTER ONE

The sheer shock on the faces of her former college roommates proved more satisfying than Barbra Atkins had even dared hope. Tingling, she blew kisses at the rest of her audience, mainly men but with a nice smattering of women present.

Her fans began chanting Tam-my, Tam-my, Tam-my—her stage name. She stretched to her full height, rising on the toes of her high heels, lifting her long curls off her shoulders, knowing full well how that simple gesture accentuated her breasts. Without checking, she knew her nipples had swollen to nearly twice their normal size and jutted against the sheer peignoir top, suggesting a little mystery. Many of her fans didn’t care about mystery. Barb blew another series of kisses and rotated her hips. A little mystery fed the fantasies, bringing her customers back for more, encouraging larger tips, and generating more lap dance opportunities than she could fit in between dance numbers.

She’d honed every move of the body, every glint of the eye, every twist of the smile to enhance the fantasy. She’d studied hours and hours of tapes of her routines and had rearranged them with a critical eye. Grinning at a beefy man waving a fist full of bills, she danced confidently toward him, knowing that she’d left little if anything to chance.

It was her attention to detail, her work ethic, and her desire that had made her one of most highly sought after exotic dancers on the national private club circuit. She peered out through the haze at her former roommates, Ruth Nelson and Desiree Rogers, who clearly remained thunderstruck to see their former shy and somewhat nerdy roommate confidently turning on a room full of men and women.

With a nod to Fifty Shades, at #AVN

Who knew! Hubs and I write erotic romance for two, three, or more, and we also love watching adult videos (and would love to see some of our stories on the silver screen). So we’re here in Las Vegas, getting ready to attend the AVN Fan Expo this afternoon – way excited, I can tell you!

But who knew the adult movie industry would credit a recent uptick in sales of toys and adult films to a book, of all things? Here’s a LINK to the article hubs just found, from the Yahoo Financial page.

A couple brief quotes from the post:

From Kristen Tribby, Director of Marketing for The Pleasure Chest:

“It’s not the quality of the book [Fifty Shades of Grey], but rather the conversations surrounding the book that continue to make it something of a phenomenon,” Tribby said. “It’s really changed the way people look at sex. … And for us, it’s really made the mainstream start to take us as an industry more seriously.”

from James Deen, adult film star:

“People, as we evolve, are becoming more sexually open and more socially acceptable of sex.”

But that’s not all. Industry retailers are noting an increasing trend in women and especially baby boomers seeking high-quality toys and entertainment. One toy maker, Maia, is already targeting women and plans a new line for boomers. Don’t laugh, please – a major feature will be larger buttons to operate the toys. I, for one, will be grateful – those tiny buttons can be hard to manage, especially if there’s any lube involved and they get slippery.

I’ll be back tomorrow with a report from our afternoon at the Expo – can’t wait!
