Australia…There’s Nothing Like It!
Today we welcome author JoAnne Kenrick to our pages!
Australia is the perfect setting for a romance…white sands, surfer dudes, fish n chips, bright aussie sun, and the friendliest, laid back people ever! Besides, it’s my favorite country to live of all the places I’ve ever ‘hung my hat’. England, Scotland, Wales, and the States don’t have a patch on New South Wales. Cronulla Beach was our favorite desintation spot, and that piccie was taken from our usual hotel, Rydges. Right around the corner was a lovely High Street filled with cutesy touristy type stores like green clothing or surfer gear. And the fish and chip (chippy to Brits and Aussies) store has the best fish and chips I’ve ever tasted; dosen’t matter that the queue can go for a mile. It’s worth the wait.
So it stands to reason that I would set a romance series here sooner or later. I’m just glad I decided to do it sooner…I’ve really enjoyed the ride Rock You Like A Hurricane took me on, and I can’t wait to enjoy the Aussie thrills and 80s memories Thunderstruck, book two, will bring me.
Another one of my favorite places in Australia is Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo in Brisbane…he may have passed on, but his spirit is embedded into that place and he’ll never be forgotten. You can ‘feel’ him all around you…well, we could when we paid a visit there. Not only is it incredible to see all his life work in that zoo, but they have such a relaxed atomsphere and you can literally wander into fields to pet the kangers or say hello to the kolas. Never have I seen so many ‘caged’ animals well cared and catered for. Aussies sure know how to take care of their animals. I’m not even sure ‘caged’ would be an appropriate term…they have so much space!
And what about the food? You know we’ve gotta talk Vegemite. If we didn’t, it would be like mentioning America without talking about peanut butter and jelly/jam sandwiches. What do I think of the stuff? I think it’s yummy in small doses. Spread very finely on toast loaded with butter and it’s divine. But I’ve got to be in the mood for it to enjoy the experience. And chicken salt on hot chips/fries. Also, I miss Tim Tims. ((sigh)) Nothing quite like ’em. Aussies answer to Mr Kipling or Litte Debbie cakes. And let’s not even start on chiko’s (savory snack, cross between a spring roll and a burrito) or fairy bread which is bascially bread and butter sprinkled with, well, sprinkles! A favorite with kids. And it’s Adele’s favorite snack in Thundestruck…yes, she’s getting her own story. And if Rock You Like A Hurricane is anything to go by (smoking hot wax play scenes) I wouldn’t be surprised if she smothers some abs with butter and mutli-colored hundreds and thousands 😉

It’s 1989 and Ryker Conall, American rock star and heartbreaker, is looking all kinds of Bon Jovi hot. He’s back in Australia and staying in the exclusive Darling Harbour Hotel where Sadie Fox works. His plans include more than rocking it down under. He also wants to rekindle what he had with Sadie back in ‘85. But wanting and getting are two different things.
Sadie’s objective is to get through the week without getting under Ryker. Getting over him was hard the first time around. She’s not sure she could do it a second. Just one week, that’s all, then she’s home free.
When a hurricane moves in, they have to wait it out. It might be a big hotel, but Sadie can’t hide from Ryker forever. It’s not long before Sadie is backed into a corner. A corner she is not sure she wants to get out of.
JoAnne Kenrick, an ex-Ghost Tour Guide turned Romance Author, is a Welsh lass who has lived in various countries around the world. She now calls North Carolina her home, where she lives with her husband, two children and a lazy cat. When they aren’t demanding her attention, she can most likely be found watching a vampire movie, reading or baking up a British favorite in her N.C. kitchen. That is, when she isn’t writing or chatting up a storm on social networking sites. www.joannekenrick.com
